Hannover – at the heart of Germany and Europe
It's easy to get to Hannover from Canada. Daily, nonstop flights on Lufthansa/Air Canada take Canadian passengers to Frankfurt (flights to Munich also available on selected days) and the connecting 40-minute flight to Hannover. The Hannover-Langenhagen Airport-one of the most modern in Europe is only 11 kilometers from the city centre. The city can be easily reached from all directions. Major autobahn and railway routes converge in Hannover.
For terrific value and an interesting, rewarding experience during your visit to Hannover, plan to stay in a private home or apartment. It's an alternative that many North Americans try and truly enjoy. During the shows, thousands of Hannoverians open their homes to business travelers. From preparing a hearty breakfast for you in the morning, to recommending a favorite restaurant for client entertaining in the evening, your host family will provide that home-away-from-home you so rarely enjoy on business trips.
During major trade shows, be prepared to encounter heavy traffic as you head to the Fairgrounds. While the parking facilities at the Fairgrounds can accommodate more than 40,000 cars, parking in the city can be tricky. If possible, park at a meter or in a parking garage.
Arriving by Air: If you arrive at Hannover Airport, you can take a taxi to your accommodation, pick up a rental car (Note: it is best to reserve your rental car via your Canadian travel agent, such as The Traveldesk, before leaving Canada), or take the suburban train No. S5 from the Hannover Airport to Hannover's Main Train Station (Hauptbahnhof). From downtown Hannover's Main Train Station, you can take street car/subway tram lines 8 or 18 (note, line 18 may not run during every show – it is generally in operation during larger fairs, such as CeBIT and Hannover Messe) which will take you to the Hannover Fairground's North entrance, Nord 1. In addition, the Exhibition Grounds can be reached via Line 6, "Messe Ost". Details on the public transportation system are included in visitor packages.
Hannover is not a city for hailing cabs. You can catch a cab at a stand just outside the Fairgrounds' north, south and west entrances, and at any taxi stand around the city. During major trade shows you can arrange for a taxi to pick you up at the same place and time for the duration of the show. You can also call for pickup at a specific location. Popular taxi services in Hannover can be reached by phoning 8484 or 3811.
For more than 18 years, The Traveldesk has helped hundreds of Canadian visitors and exhibitors save time and money traveling to Hannover, Germany. Bed and Breakfast, their specialty, is a convenient and cost-effective alternative for both visitors and exhibitors. For example, the difference in cost for bed and breakfast vs. hotel may enable an additional staff member to attend. In practically all instances, their homes are centrally located and not more than a 20 minute ride by public transportation to the Fairgrounds. For those who prefer Hotel Accommodation, The Traveldesk can book rooms in Hannover and the surrounding area, as part of a complete travel package (including air fare). Hotel rooms range from $140 to $250 per night based on location, though most hotels are within a short distance of public transportation routes to the Hannover exhibition grounds.
